Latest on Thembinkosi Lorch’s sentencing

Orlando Pirates star Thembinkosi Lorch will have to wait for another month to know his fate after he was found guilty of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm in June by the Randburg Magistrates’ Court.

Lorch was found guilty of assaulting his former girlfriend Fundiswa Mathithibala.

The victim, Mathithibala, stated that she was visiting the ex-Chippa United player at his Midrand home when an argument between the two parties ensued resulting in Lorch becoming violent.

The Bafana Bafana star was arrested on 7 September 2020 and was then released on R2 000 bail.

THEMBINKOSI LORCH’S SENTENCING POSTPONED

The sentence proceedings for the Pirates midfielder, Lorch, has been postponed to 4 September 2023.

“Unfortunately the court could not proceed because Mr Lorch and his defence were not ready with the pre-sentencing report because the accused was out of the country and they could not complete the process said,” said NPA spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane as quoted by Zijoma Lezinto.

The unavailability of electricity at the court was also another major factor that led to the sentencing proceedings being postponed.

Last season, the star player featured in 16 games across all competitions for Pirates and contributed four goals in the process. His game time at the Buccaneers last campaign was derailed by injuries.

When Lorch was found guilty, Pirates conducted internal investigations regarding the matter.

The club went on to charge Lorch with serious misconduct after he pleaded guilty to the charges.

Pirates imposed a sanction of a monetary fine and ordered him to undergo anger management therapy.

After the Soweto giants ordered him to undergo anger management therapy, Lorch attended therapy with Dr. Nomsa Nkuna-Boikanyo. This was part of his rehabilitation, with the club’s approval.

Lorch went on to complete his prescribed number of sessions. And since then, he has not been involved in any similar incident involving violence.

As a result, the club remained confident that the anger management therapy was an appropriate corrective measure.
