Cassius Mailula’s mother reacts to his Toronto move
The mother of former Mamelodi Sundowns and now Toronto FC forward Cassius Mailula, Pinky, has reacted with joy over her son’s latest move in his football career. Mailula was officially confirmed as the new signing by the Major League Soccer side on Friday.
The 22-year-old joins the club on a three-year deal until 2026 with an option to extend for a further year.

Ms Mailula was recently speaking at an event organised by Cassius’ former academy, Limpopo Sports School of Excellence in Polokwane.
“I am very grateful for what Mamelodi Sundowns have done for my son,” said an emotional Mailula.
“They have done a lot for my son and I never thought he would be where he is now.”

“The first time he told me he was going for trials, he was very young, but he went there and things happened. He passed the trials, Sundowns people came down to speak to his academy [Limpopo Sports School of Excellence],” she explained how her son found himself in the Sundowns setup.
“He then went to Clapham [High School], even the people at Clapham I can’t thank them enough for how they raised my son until he reached matric before he graduated.
“To the Mamelodi Sundowns technical team, the management and his teammates, I really appreciate everything. I really appreciate what they have done for my son,” she said.
She also offered some words of advice to the Bafana Bafana star, who is expected to jet off the country next week.
“Now that Cassius is going out there and they [Mamelodi Sundowns] allowed him, we don’t even know what he is going to meet there. But I wish him all the best and I know he will do well.
“Even at Mamelodi Sundowns, the minute they released him they shared some wise words to him. Cassius must focus on how he has always done things, how he plays and how he respects people. He must also respect his new teammates and the technical team that side, and remain the way he is,” she said.
“I am aware that some other people when they reach another level, they change. But I just ask God, not with Son.”
