Motaung reacts to Gabadinho Mhango transfer talk
Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has responded to the transfer talk surrounding Malawian international Gabadinho Mhango.
The Flames forward is on his way out of AmaZulu FC after just one season, as he is not part of the club’s plans.
He has since been linked with a move to Amakhosi, with FARPost sources saying a transfer fee had been agreed upon between the two clubs.
Mhango is expected to do a medical at Naturena early next week before completing his switch to the Soweto giants.
His signing certainly makes sense as Chiefs search for an alternative in the centre-forward position, where they have Ranga Chivaviro and Caleb Bimenyimana as their only experienced players.
Due to injury, Chivaviro has missed the club’s two international friendly matches in Tanzania and Botswana. On the other hand, Bimenyimana looks likely to be a periphery figure at the club this season. The Burundian recently returned after his potential move to Morocco’s Raja Casablanca failed.
WHAT BOBBY MOTAUNG SAID ABOUT GABADINHO MHANGO TRANSFER TALK
Congolese forward Christian Saile is better off as a wide player, necessitating the need for reinforcement in the centre of attack.
Motaung said they are “trying to beef up their striking force” and would soon announce it. He was speaking before the start of the Chiefs friendly against Township Rollers at the National Stadium in Botswana’s capital, Gaborone.
“Kaizer Junior deals with the names. I deal with the team, the whole team – the football environment,” he told SuperSport TV.
“But not Gabadinho Mhango, but we’re trying to beef up our striking force. We have two injuries, three injuries in the striking department, so we’re trying to beef up. Not Gabadinho Mhango, but Kaizer Jnr will announce.”
The 30-year-old forward scored six goals in 19 starts for AmaZulu last season. If Mhango does join Chiefs, he will be the club’s eighth signing of the transfer window.
The club has already signed Edson Castillo, Tebogo Potsane, Mduduzi Mdantsane, Pule Mmodi, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Given Msimango and Chivaviro.
Chiefs are also reportedly interested in signing Thabo Cele from Polish side Radomiak Radom.
Chiefs are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2023/24 season, in which they will be hoping to challenge for the PSL title.
