What Brandon Truter anticipates in the new season
Sekhukhune United coach Brandon Truter is embracing the tough season ahead that starts with a big challenge against Champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
Truter’s charges finished in an impressive seventh position last season and subsequently qualified for the MTN8.
They also secured a spot in the CAF Confederations Cup after reaching the Nedbank Cup Final. Babina Noko also finished fifth in the DStv Premiership Q-innovation (Q4) log Standings after an impressive second round under Truter.
The club will now take part in five competitions in the DStv Premiership. MTN8, Nedbank Cup, Carling Cup and the Confederation Cup.
BRANDON TRUTER HAPPY WITH SEKHUKHUNE UNITED PREPARATIONS
Truter admits it will not be easy to manage but is impressed with the group of players at his disposal.
“It’s going to be very difficult to manage for us as coaches,” he said.
“Keeping players fresh and minimizing fatigue. It’s five competitions that we will be playing in, it involves a lot of training. The pre-season has been tough for us. Hopefully, we got it right. We will go into the season and maintain until, hopefully the FIFA break.
“It’s a nice challenge, and it starts with Sundowns; so far, it has been good, and I am impressed. We are on point with where we want to be. So right now, I am happy with where we are and with the squad as well,” he added.
ON FACING MAMELODI SUNDOWNS IN PSL SEASON OPENER
“I might go for a Jose Mazibuko tactic [he laughs],” Truter was reacting to a question on how he plans to approach the clash.
“Look, it’s a good test for us. Sundowns have raised the bar yet again. The results coming from the pre-season camp in Europe is massive. Sundowns keep on raising the bar, and like other clubs, we want to close it. But that’s key for us and I have a good squad this season and I am happy to get started.”
The clash will kick off at 19:30 at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
