Sekhukhune coach gives verdict on Jamie Webber’s debut
Sekhukhune United senior coach MacDonald Makhubedu has given his verdict on midfielder Jamie Webber’s debut against Mamelodi Sundowns in a DStv Premiership clash on Friday night.
Babina Noko suffered a 2-1 defeat to the defending champions, Sundowns, at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Bafana Ba Style were the first to score through Peter Shalulile from the spot kick in the 11th minute of the showdown.
New signing Lucas Ribeiro added to the scoreline in the 57th minute to extend Masandawana’s lead against the Limpopo club.
However, Sekhukhune were lucky enough to pull one back through Webber in the 61st minute of the contest.
Webber joined Sekhukhune as a free agent after SuperSport United opted against renewing his contract.
The 25-year-old footballer spent six seasons with Matsatsantsa, having signed for the Tshwane giants from Stellenbosch FC in the 2017/18 season.
Last campaign, Webber featured in 19 games for SuperSport across all competitions.
MACDONALD MAKHUBEDU’S VERDICT ON JAMIE WEBBER’S DEBUT
“He’s quality. Remember we signed him at the end of last season. He’s a very good player from a very good set-up,” Makhubedu told journalists in Polokwane.
“He clicked well with the boys also. It tells you how the team is from the six weeks we have been working in the pre-season.
“A new player just came in and clicked well with others. Also, Rally [Bwalya], if it wasn’t for the red card we received, he was going to give the same performance as Webber.”
Webber was not only the scoresheet, but also walked away with the Man of the Match accolade following his stellar displays.
SEKHUKHUNE UNITED’S NEXT ASSIGNMENT
Sekhukhune’s next assignment will be against newly promoted side Cape Town Spurs away from home on Wednesday 9 August 2023. Kick-off is scheduled for 20:00.
