Petersen reveals how Chiefs will approach the game under Ntseki

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen has revealed how the team will approach the game under new head coach Molefi Ntseki.

Ntseki officially kicks off his tenure as head coach of Amakhosi when he guides Chiefs against Chippa United on Sunday, 6 August 2023, in the DStv Premiership.

After weeks of preparing the team, Petersen said that Ntseki would be looking to implement a hard-running, ball-based style of play.

PETERSEN SHARES HOW CHIEFS WILL PLAY UNDER NTSEKI

“[The coach wants us to be] a hard-running team, ball-based, ball possession, and just having structure, and playing and enjoying, expressing ourselves within that structure. I’m looking forward to it and obviously exciting times ahead,” Petersen told the media.

Peterson said the players have been working hard during pre-season to adapt to Ntseki’s methods.

“Obviously, Coach Molefi has been here, so he’s not new in the sense of being new, like coming from outside. A lot of the guys know him. They worked with him on the national team, at a different team. He comes with that experience.

“And I think the game of football is like that for us as players. You can have five coaches in one season. So I think it’s for us not to look at that but see how quickly we can adapt and how quickly we can take the information he’s trying to bring across to us and apply it to the best of our ability.

“I think even though he hasn’t coached a PSL side, he has been the national team’s coach. And you know, being a national team coach doesn’t come easy.”

Ntseki, appointed Chiefs head coach in June, replaced Arthur Zwane, who will be his assistant.

PLAYERS ARE CONFIDENT

Petersen said that the players are confident that the former Bafana Bafana coach, Ntseki, can lead Chiefs to success.

“I think there’s a lot of coaches who’ve been coaches in the PSL and not the national team. The same could be said of them if they go to the national team. I think he comes with a lot of experience. He’s been around, he’s been in the game.

“I’ve worked with him on the national team, and I think you can expect some exciting football this season,” he said.

Chiefs begin their 2023/24 season with a home match against Chippa at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. They visit Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday, 9 August, 2023 at the Lucas Moripe Stadium for their next assignment.
