Morgan Mammila: ‘Chiefs is not better than Chippa’

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila has claimed that Kaizer Chiefs is not better than his side, insisting the Soweto giants are just a club with a rich history.

The outspoken Mammila made these remarks after the Chilli Boys held Chiefs to a goalless draw in a DStv Premiership clash at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

Chiefs had a disappointing showing last season after finishing fifth on the league table and failing to win any silverware. As a result, they made coaching changes, with Molefi Ntseki appointed as head coach.

Arthur Zwane, who was in the hot seat at Amakhosi season, was demoted to the assistant coach position.

With the Glamour Boys failing to walk away with a victory against Chippa, Mammila has claimed that Chiefs is not better than Chippa in terms of playing personnel.

MORGAN MAMMILA MAKES BOLD CLAIM ABOUT KAIZER CHIEFS

“Firstly, playing against the team of Chiefs’ calibre, rich history, and everything they do is out there. We can all see. I’m not advertising them, that’s who they are,” said Mammila.

“But I came here with my soldiers, I told them [players] that Kaizer Chiefs has a rich history but players-wise, we are equal, and they are not better than us when it comes to players.

“We have to show Kaizer Chiefs players that they are playing for a big team, but they are not better than us.

“The plan was to dominate the game from the first minute up until 90 minutes, and Chiefs never had even a shot on target.

“It’s because they were playing a good and organised team, we created so many chances, but I’ll take a point away from home.

“This is the sweetest team to get points against, there’s no other team that is sweetest than this one.

“I must give credit to my players. They gave it their all, and they wore the Chippa badge with pride. Tactically we were very good. It’s just that early in the season, you will see those mistakes.”

Chiefs travel to Lucas Moripe Stadium Tuesday, 9 August to face Mamelodi Sundowns in their next league encounter. Kickoff is at 15:00.
