John Maduka gives update on Hugo Nyame’s injury

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has given an update on goalkeeper Hugo Nyame’s injury after he has been out for quite some time.

The Cameroonian shot-stopper suffered a knee injury in a match against Sekhukhune United last season. It was reported that the 37-year-old was going to go under the knife in order to get his injury treated.

He has not played competitive football since April earlier this year. Thwihli Thwahla have been relying on the former SuperSport United goalkeeper Mondli Mpoto.

Speaking after the match against AmaZulu FC this past weekend, Maduka said he hopes that Nyame returns in four weeks’ time.

“He’s in rehab now, I just hope that in three or four weeks’ time that he comes back,” Maduka told the media.

“Because it keeps us also thin in that department but it’s coming right. And we hope that he comes back soon.”

Nyame has played 50 matches and kept 19 clean sheets since the club bought top-flight status from Bloemfontein Celtic in 2021.

Meanwhile, the Pietermaritzburg-based side recently welcomed King Ndlovu for a trial as they’re looking for a goalkeeper to bolster the department between the post.

Ndlovu was part of the travelling squad to Ulundi a week ago where Royal AM took part in the Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup. However, the 30-year-old has not signed on the dotted line since AM are still banned to sign players.

The KZN outfit still has to pay R12 million owed to Samir Nurkovic after they terminated his contract prematurely. Other players who are under assessment at Royal AM are Sibusiso Sibeko and Nkanyiso Zungu.

Zungu parted ways with Pirates when his contract came to an end last season. Meanwhile, Sibeko left Marumo Gallants after they suffered relegation to the second tier.
