Rulani Mokwena reveals four Sundowns players who will miss Chiefs game

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena has revealed four players who will miss the highly-anticipated DStv Premiership clash against Kaizer Chiefs.

Sundowns kicked off their season with a 2-1 victory over Sekhukhune United last Friday, thanks to goals by Peter Shalulile and debutant Lucas Ribeiro Costa.

Masandawana have been dominant in domestic football after winning their record sixth league title in a row last season.

In addition, Sundowns seemingly struggled to replicate the form shown in the local football in the CAF Champions League. They were knocked out of the semi-finals of the tournament by Wydad Casablanca last season.

The Brazilians will welcome Amakhosi at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday looking to win their second successive match in the league.

Sundowns walked away with all the bragging rights last campaign after winning both league fixtures against Chiefs.

With the Tshwane giants aiming to hand Molefi Ntseki his first defeat in charge of Chiefs, Mokwena provided an injury update for his side.

RULANI MOKWENA REVEALS INJURED QUARTET

“We don’t have too many injuries but Thapelo Morena is out with a hamstring injury which he picked up on our trip to the Netherlands,” Mokwena said.

“We have Nasir Abubeker still struggling but we expect him to be back soon, within the next two weeks.

“Sphelele Mkhulise picked up a knock in our last friendly, so he’s still out and those three are a major concern. Otherwise, we have everyone in a space where they are fit and ready.

“Rushine [De Reuck] still post-surgery, that’s the one that’s a bit of more long-term,” Mokwena concluded.

On the other hand, Chiefs dropped points after playing to a goalless draw against Chippa United. They will be looking to bounce back against the defending champions.

The two giants will face off at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, 9th of August. Kickoff is at 15:00.
