Farouk Khan reveals the edge Patrick Maswanganyi has on Kabelo Dlamini
Stars of Africa Football Academy director Farouk Khan has revealed the edge Orlando Pirates attacker Patrick Maswanganyi has on his teammate Kabelo Dlamini.
Maswanganyi joined Pirates from SuperSport United at the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
‘Tito’ as he is affectionately known, joined Pirates alongside Melusi Buthelezi, Siphelo Baloni, Katlego Otladisa, Lesedi Kapinga, Karim Kimvuidi and Siphamandla Gumede.
Maswanganyi has, so far, proven to be the best signing for the Soweto giants. He’s the only new player who has started all three opening matches for the club.
Meanwhile, the 25-year-old midfielder has managed to keep Kabelo Dlamini out of the Pirates matchday squad.
Dlamini was instrumental for Pirates last season, helping his side win the MTN8, Nedbank Cup and finish runners-up behind Mamelodi Sundowns.
The former Bloemfontein Celtics star made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Buccaneers and scored two goals while making six assists.
Pirates currently have Thembinkosi Lorch, Vincent Pule, Lesedi Kapinga, Karim Kimvuidi, Dlamini and Maswanganyi fighting for the number 10 role.
FAROUK KHAN MAKES A COMPARISON OF KABELO DLAMINI AND PATRICK MASWANGANYI
“Kabelo Dlamini and Patrick Maswanganyi are both quality players with a very educated left foot,” Farouk told FARPost.
“These are two players that I know very well because they both came through Stars Of Africa Football Academy.
“In terms of attacking abilities, I would say they are a bit similar because of skill and their intelligence.
“The only difference that makes Maswanganyi different from Dlamini is that Maswanganyi can defend as well as he attacks. Whereas Dlamini still lacks a little bit in defence.”
“But like I said, these are two great players who we are proud to have developed to be great professionals.”
