Kannemeyer’s Caleb Bimenyimana plea to Molefi Ntseki

Fomer Kaizer Chiefs defender David Kannemeyer has made a plea to his former club’s coach Molefi Ntseki about Burundian forward Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

The 25-year-old striker joined the Soweto giants last campaign on a two-year deal. He scored eight goals in 21 appearances and finished as the team’s leading goal scorer.

Chiefs are reported to be looking for a buyer for the 25-year-old as he is not in their plans. This season, Chiefs have signed striker Ranga Chivaviro from Marumo Gallants.

The 30-year-old, who scored 17 goals last season in all competitions, is still finding his feet in Amakhosi colours.

And now Kannemeyer, who won two DStv Premiership titles during his four-year stint with Chiefs, is appealing to Ntseki to give the Burundian international another opportunity to play for the team.

The former Bafana Bafana defender believes Bimenyimana can score more goals this season. “I think the boy’s first season in the PSL was not that bad,” said Kannnemeyer.

“Many players struggle in their first season, but Caleb showed some good signs and some qualities of a good striker.

“I think he deserves to be given another chance as he knows what is expected from him and I think he has adapted to the Premiership.

“It takes some time for new players and especially from out of the country to fit in and they deserve a fair chance. Many strikers struggle in their debut season in the Premiership and do well in the second one.

“I hope they can give him a chance. But people have their opinion at the end of the day and the coach decides on who he wants in his team.”

So far, Ntseki has Ashley du Preez, Christian Saile and Chivaviro as his frontmen. And Du Preez is the only one who started the new season in good form, netting two goals in three matches

The 26-year-old scored in Chiefs’ 2-1 league defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns. He was on target again when Ntseki’s team beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the MTN8 quarter-final on Sunday.
