SuperSport United product finds new home in Armenia
One of SuperSport United’s unheralded products has joined FC Van in the Armenia Premier League, FARPost has learnt.
The former SuperSport United reserve side striker signed a one-year contract with the Armenia outfit, FC Van.
This, however, will be his second stint with FC Van after spending five months in their ranks, from January to July 2022.
The 27-year-old Jaisen Clifford has been nomadic having played in Portugal for Clube Condeixa.
He also played for Gudja United FC and Mqabba FC in Malta. Prior to the move, the SuperSport United unheralded product spent eleven months on the sidelines, without a club.
WHAT JAISEN CLIFFORD’S AGENT SAID
The move to FC Van was engineered by Herve Tra Bi, who also facilitated Ranga Chivaviro‘s move to Kaizer Chiefs from Marumo Gallants.
“He’s a player I’ve worked with for quite a while. We held talks with some PSL teams, but we couldn’t find the right challenge for him locally.
“The Armenia opportunity then came, and we felt it’s a good place for him to go and play there.
“He’s a versatile attacker who can play as a winger or as a second striker,” Herve Tra Bi told FARPost.
Jaisen Clifford will hope to make an instant impact in Armenia and possibly be recognised for future Bafana Bafana assignments.
How he will fare at FC Van remains to be seen, but this is a golden opportunity for him to prove his worth.
At 27, Clifford has not received a national team call-up despite being a promising player who passed through SuperSport United.
He started off his career at Matsatsantsa in 2014 before switching to Gudja United FC in Malta. Locally, he also spent some time in All Stars’ books from November 2020 to February 2022.
