Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has bid farewell to Kaizer Chiefs fans following his exit from the club, adding that he is “really happy to be free”.

Chiefs confirmed his exit on Wednesday afternoon, ending months of speculation over his future.

“Kaizer Chiefs have come to an agreement with striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana to part ways after one season,” read a club statement.

“He will be free to join a team of his choice, and we wish him well in his future.”

The Burundian forward took to social media to express how he was relieved to be finally “free”.

The 25-year-old forward fell out of favour at Chiefs despite finishing as the club’s top goal scorer last season. He featured 21 times for Chiefs, with 17 of those appearances starts under Coach Arthur Zwane. Bimenyimana found the back of the net eight times in all competitions.

His first goal for Amakhosi was in a 2-1 home win against SuperSport United. ‘The Swallows’ of Burundi marksman entered the history books when he scored a hattrick of penalties in a 3-1 win over Stellenbosch in a league game on 9 October 2022.

That hattrick made him the first Amakhosi player in the PSL era to score three goals from the penalty spot in a league game.

Coach Molefi Ntseki has overlooked the player this season after his return from a botched trial with Morocco’s Raja Casablanca.

Bimenyimana is now a free agent and is looking for a new club. He hopes to find a team where he can play regular first-team football and showcase his talents.
