Kaizer Chiefs bolster attack with signing of Colombian striker

Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their attack with the signing of a Colombian forward Efmamjjasond González, the club has confirmed.

The 24-year-old’s arrival in the country has reportedly been delayed due to visa issues.

KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRMS SIGNING OF EFMAMJJASOND GONZALEZ

“With the season already underway, Kaizer Chiefs continue to bolster their squad by announcing the signing of Efmamjjasond Gonzáles Palacios from Colombia, as they prepare to compete strongly in 2023/24,” read a club statement.

“The forward, simply known as Jasond González, is the second player from Colombia to sign for Amakhosi. He joins the team a year after his fellow countryman, Leonardo Castro, departed South Africa.

“González, who was plying his trade in the Bolivian Primera Division for Real Santa Cruz, is expected to arrive in South Africa soon to start his career as a Glamour Boy.”

The announcement comes just a day after the club confirmed the departure of Burundian forward Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana.

Although the club did not disclose details of the deal, indications are that he arrives on a year-long deal, with an option to turn it permanent.

González is a budding striker who has been plying his trade in Bolivia. The current season has been his best after he scored eight goals in 11 appearances for Real Santa Cruz.

Chiefs will be hoping that González can join the team as soon as possible and help them sharpen their attack in the DStv Premiership

Chiefs have scored three goals so far this season in three matches. They played a goalless draw against Chippa United in the opening match of the season.

In their next encounter, they lost 2-1 to Mamelodi Sundowns before beating Cape Town City 2-1 to progress to the MTN8 Cup semi-final.

Ashley Du Preez has scored two goals, while the other came via the boot of new signing Edson Castillo.

They will be hoping the South American forward hits the ground running to share the goal-scoring responsibilities with Du Preez.
