Pablo Martin: ‘It never happened in my life as a coach’

AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin was “not happy” with the performance and the result of his side this past weekend.

Usuthu stretched their winless run to three games when they were held to a 0-0 stalemate by Richards Bay FC on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. AmaZulu have drawn all their three DStv Premiership games with 0-0 scoreline.

Their league opener was against Royal AM at Harry Gwala Stadium, while the second match saw them locking horns with SuperSport United in Durban.

Apart from struggling to get his first win in South Africa, the Spanish tactician is yet to see his side score a goal in a competitive match. They last hit the back of the net during the pre-season tournament Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup, beating Mbabane Swallows 2-1 in Ulundi.

According to Martin, since he started coaching, this is the first time he’s seen his side not score a goal in two consecutive games.

“We need to start changing things. We’re happy about not conceding goals, but we cannot be happy about not converting in thee games,” said Martin.

“This is something that never happened in my life as a coach, probably not even two games in a row not converting a goal.

“So, we need to go for solutions, it’s true that we are missing some key players upfront for a long time. I don’t know when they will arrive; when they arrive they have to make a difference.

“But anyway, in the meantime, we cannot be thinking of them. We need to get the three points and get more wins with the players we have right now.”

Now, ahead of Usuthu is a battle against Kaizer Chiefs. The Soweto giants are enduring a poor start to the new season under a new coach, Molefi Ntseki. The match will take place on Saturday, 26 August at 17:30 at the FNB Stadium.
