Royal AM’s transfer ban resulting in poor start? Maduka responds

Royal AM head coach John Maduka has said his piece on whether their poor start to the new season comes as a result of the FIFA Transfer ban imposed on his side.

Thwihli Thwahla suffered their second consecutive defeat on Friday evening after they failed to contain Stellenbosch FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium.

They lost 3-1 despite having gone to the break leading with one goal to nil. The 22-year-old Hopewell Cele was the one who scored the only goal for Maduka’s men.

Last week, AM lost 4-2 to Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium. Meanwhile, before that, they had drawn their league opener 0-0 with AmaZulu FC. They have only collected one point from a total of nine.

Many have pointed at the FIFA transfer ban as the main reason for the instability of their squad. The ban was imposed on Royal AM after they failed to pay R12 million owed to their former striker Samir Nurkovic.

Maduka says they have to utilise whatever they have in the team to make things work. He also insisted there are positives they have taken from their previous matches.

JOHN MADUKA SAYS THEY MUST USE WHAT THEY HAVE

“Of course, it doesn’t look good, but there are positives we can’t just leave completely out,” Maduka told the media.

“We have to do with whatever we have and try to make plans and work hard. And we see how it goes, but we have to change our situation as quickly as possible and start winning.”

The Malawian tactician feels there’s no excuse for their poor run. He has faith in his troops that they have what it takes to start winning games.

‘THERE IS NO EXCUSE’

“We’ll win games, sometimes it’s not how you start,” he continued.

“But it’s very important for us to start winning games, especially playing at home; our next game is TS Galaxy.

“We must go all out and make sure that we win the game, there is no excuse. Whoever plays in that game, we must make sure that we win the game.

“We can’t say it’s still early in the season, it’s very important to start winning games.”
