Pule Mmodi reveals Molefi Ntseki’s pre-match advice

Kaizer Chiefs’ double scorer Pule Mmodi has revealed Coach Molefi Ntseki’s pre-match advice that led to an emphatic 3-0 win over AmaZulu FC in a DStv Premiership encounter.

Chiefs secured an important victory on Saturday, beating AmaZulu satisfyingly at the FNB Stadium. Ntseki heaved a sigh of relief after picking his first league win since taking over the hot seat.

Amakhosi drew with Chippa United in their first game of the season before losing against Mamelodi Sundowns [2-1] and TS Galaxy [1-0].

But a Mmodi brace and another goal coming from new signing Edson Castillo were enough to earn the Soweto giants a victory in front of their fans at home.

Mmodi was pleased to open his account for Chiefs after switching from Golden Arrows during the off-season.

“The three points will lift our spirits,” an elated Mmodi said. “We were under pressure coming into this game, but I think this win lifts off the pressure. It will help us with momentum going to the MTN8, where we play Mamelodi Sundowns.”

In between their two league defeats this season, they beat Cape Town City 2-1 in the MTN8 Cup. That victory saw them progress to the semi-finals of the competition.

“I’m happy for myself to have scored both goals. I was tired to add numbers in the box, but luckily, I was able to get there,” Mmodi added.

“Coming to this game, the coach told us to have character and show energy.”

He praised the Amakhosi defence for standing resolute and thwarting Usuthu from scoring. “We’re happy to get a clean sheet. Our defence deserves the credit.”

On Wednesday, 30 August, Chiefs turn their attention to an away clash against Stellenbosch FC. After that, they shift focus to the MTN8 semi-finals, where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns. The first leg will be played on Saturday, September 2.
