Are Kaizer Chiefs on the right track? Tefu Mashamaite answers
Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite has offered his insights on Amakhosi’s progress in the new season under the guidance of Molefi Ntseki.
Mashamaite says that Chiefs’ new signings are a sign that the Glamour Boys are heading in the right direction. However, they still have some work to do.
He believes Chiefs have a strong and quality squad and pointed out the brilliance of Given Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe and the experience of Mduduzi Mdantsane, Edson Castillo and Tebogo Potsane.
The ex-SuperSport United man went on to acknowledge that things haven’t been easy for the Soweto giants as different coaches were coming in and out.
And given Chiefs’ poor start to the new campaign, many people are wondering if Molefi is up to such a big task, leading Amakhosi to the promised land.
TEFU MASHAMAITE ON KAIZER CHIEFS’ PROGRESSION
“I feel they have made some great signings. You know, the past few seasons have been challenging with the coaches coming in and out. Meanwhile, the supporters feel like they haven’t made the right signings,” Mashamaite told FARPost.
“But for the first time, I feel like they have really taken care of almost every department.”
Mashamaite further stated that Chiefs’ defence has been one of the problems in the past few seasons.
“I feel like in the past few seasons, they have been struggling with the defence,” the 38-year-old added.
“But with Ditlhokwe and Msimango, they are starting to create that bound that can create a big defensive combination.
“In the midfield, the boy from South America [Edson Castillo], he looks solid and promising. They have made a couple of signings in attack as well with Mduduzi Mdantsane and Tebogo Potsane coming in.”
Mashamaite continued: “They have got some young, exciting players also. We are just waiting to see upfront, I feel like when they start scoring goals, a lot can happen.”
As things stand, Chiefs are placed 11th on the DStv Premiership log standings with four points from four outings.
