Lyle Foster reacts to scoring his first Premier League goal

Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster has explained why he wasn’t overly thrilled after scoring his first Premier League goal in the colours of Burnley FC.

Coming from the break in a match against Aston Villa, the Clarets were 2-0 down and Foster rattled the back of the net to half the deficit to 2-1. However, his side ended up losing the match 3-1 in their kraal with the visitors grabbing the third to collect maximum points.

The 22-year-old forward’s strike was also the first goal for Vincent Kompany’s men this season following their return to the top-tier. It was their second match of the campaign after they lost their opener 3-0 to the champions Manchester City.

In the post-match, Foster seemed like he had a little to smile about as he was reacting to having opened his account in the Premier League. However, he admitted that he was “super happy” when further asked about the goal.

“I am very grateful to get my first goal and open my account in the Premier League,” he said. “It doesn’t taste as sweet as I would have liked. But I’m really happy to get my first goal in the top-flight.

“We pushed for the equaliser and tried to get a second goal after that but it wasn’t meant to be.”

The former Orlando Pirates man says they have to try and avoid conceding early goals going forward.

“It was a difficult game against a very good side. We tried to assert ourselves and we had moments in the game where we tried to do that,” he continued.

“But the two early goals put us on the back foot, we had to go back to the drawing board. We have to keep going and try to stop conceding early goals as you can get punished in this league.”

Foster feels that they grasped some lessons in the previous two games they have played in the EPL.

“We have learnt a lot already so far; we have played two really good sides with exceptional players,” he added.

“But we are a young squad with really good players. And we will work hard to get things right and improve every day.”
