Njabulo Blom breaks silence on Bafana Bafana snub
St. Louis City midfielder Njabulo Blom has spoken out about his omission from the Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming two friendlies in September.
Bafana will face DR Congo and Namibia in the international friendlies set to be hosted at Orlando Stadium. Both fixtures will be played on the 9th and 12th of September respectively.
The friendlies are part of the Bafana’s preparations for the AFCON showpiece that will take place in January 2024 at Ivory Coast and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
SA head coach Hugo Broos announced his final 23-men squad, and Blom was a notable absentee. The former Kaizer Chiefs workhorse was named in the preliminary squad but missed out on the final squad.
Blom was snubbed alongside his compatriots Cassius Mailula and Bongokuhle Hlongwane, who ply their trades in Major League Soccer [MLS] in the United States of America [USA].
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has now opened up about being left out of the Bafana squad.

“I’m getting better with every game, and I’m learning. I mean, everyone that is in the national team deserves to be there,” Blom said on Metro FM.
“Not making the national team means that I need to improve and work harder. I’m disappointed for not making the team. But when you look at the quality of the team, all the guys deserve to be there.”
Meanwhile, Blom has made 18 appearances for St. Louis City since making a switch from Kaizer Chiefs in December 2022.
In addition, the midfielder made his Bafana debut in September 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Ghana.
Blom was part of the Bafana squad that beat Morroco 2-1 in the AFCON qualifiers at FNB Stadium on the 17th of June, 2023.
