Pirates out for revenge against Stellenbosch? Jose Riveiro answers

Coach Jose Riveiro says his Orlando Pirates side have learned their lesson from a league defeat to Stellenbosch FC at the beginning of the season and are now ready to face the Cape club again at the weekend.

Pirates will travel to Cape Town to take on Steve Barker’s boys in the MTN8 semi-final first leg.

The game will take place on Sunday, 3 August 2023 at Athlone Stadium, with the game set to kick-off at 15:00.

The Spanish mentor, Riveiro, seeks revenge against Stellies after their 1-0 defeat earlier this season in a DStv Premiership clash.

Riveiro insists that their defeat at the hands of Stellenbosch will serve as a motivation for his troops when the two sides meet on Sunday.

The 47-year-old coach was speaking during the MTN8 press conference at the PSL headquarters on Thursday. 31 August 2023.

JOSE RIVEIRO ON FACING STELLENBOSCH AGAIN

“Actually, the fact that we couldn’t win just a few weeks ago, will serve as an extra motivation.

“It already seems like we have played against them six months ago but it was just a few weeks ago.

“I think we played a good game [when they lost to Stellenbosch] like I said several times already in Stellenbosch. But not good enough to get the results we were looking for.

“Now, the MTN8 draw has given us an opportunity to play them again very soon rather than waiting for the second leg in the league in Orlando.”

ORLANDO PIRATES GOING ALL OUT

Riveiro stated that they are going to Cape Town with the intention to win the match  and nothing else.

“We have the opportunity to go there again and try to do it better especially trying to get good results which is winning,” he added.

“We are going there with the intention to win the game, and we just want to be better than Stellenbosch and deserve the advantage at the end of the day.”
