Ntseki reveals how Chiefs went above and beyond to support Pule Mmodi

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has opened up on how the club became a pillar of strength for Pule Mmodi when the attacker lost his mother.

Prior to the start of the new season, Pule Mmodi was given compassionate leave after his Mom, Basetsana Lillian Mmodi, died earlier this month after an illness.

Mmodi missed Chiefs opening game of the 2023/24 campaign against Chippa United due to the family bereavement.

Upon his return to his return, Mmodi has been in scintillating form for AmaKhosi, who seem to have struck the right chords.

The Soweto giants beat AmaZulu FC and Stellenbosch FC in their last two matches respectively, scoring five goals without conceding.

Mmodi scored a brace against Usuthu before scoring a beautiful goal against Stellenbosch on Wednesday evening at Athlone Stadium.

All in all, the former Golden Arrows attacker, Mmodi, has banged three goals in the four DStv Premiership games he has played for Amakhosi so far in the new season.

How Mmodi has managed to come out tops following his mother’s passing has excited coach Ntseki, who has also given credit to the club’s psychologists.

NTSEKI HAILS MMODI’S MENTALITY

Ntseki said: “It is all about the club. The club has services that are provided to the players to help them on the mental side of things.

“And I think the team did very well in terms of helping with the bereavement that he experienced.

“I think he’s a very strong person as an individual. He [Mmodi] comes from a family where you’ll always get support because we visited the family, and then we could tell that there is enough support when it comes to him as a footballer.

“… From the players and from the technical team, we’ve been there for him in supporting him…,” added the Chiefs tactician.

Mmodi is expected to play chief protagonist as Chiefs seek to outdo Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday 2 September. The two giants clash in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-finals.

Chiefs were losers when the two teams met in a league match last month. They lost 2-1. However, the MTN8 clash promises to be a mouthwatering clash as both teams are on song in terms of form.

The encounter will be staged at the iconic FNB Stadium, with kickoff set for 15:00.
