Desiree Ellis’ thoughts on Cesane, Biyana and Seoposenwe’s recent transfers

Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis has shared her thoughts on the recent switches of Noxolo Cesana, Kholosa Biyana and Jermaine Seoposenwe.

Ellis was speaking during the announcement of the Banyana 23-member squad that will jet off to the USA for a tour. SA will take on USA in two high-profile international friendlies later this month.

All the three aforementioned players who recently found new homes made the cut.

In what was a surprise move, Cesana rejoined her old local club University of Westen Cape as a free agent. This was after she cut ties with the Mexican side Tigres Femenil just after five months with the club.

Ellis feels the 22-year midfielder wanted more minutes to play in order to regain her confidence having struggled somewhat for game time overseas.

Meanwhile, Biyana unexpectedly switched from UWC to the Super League champions Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies two weeks ago. She has already started two of four games that Banyana Ba Style have played in the CAF Women’s Champions League COSAFA Qualifiers in Durban.

The Banyana coach believes Biyana was lured by the continental football. Sundowns stand a chance to qualify for the Champions League should they defeat Double Action in the final on Friday.

Ellis also complemented Seoposenwe’s move from FC Juarez to CF Monterrey, saying the 29-year-old gets to challenge for “top honours”.

DESIREE ELLIES’ THOUGHTS ON CESANE, BIYANA AND SEOPOSENWE’S TRANSFERS

“I think with Noxie [Noxolo Cesane], it’s most probably to get the game time, playing again to get that confidence back,” she said.

“I think with Kholosa [Biyana], I mean the Champions League it’s a lure for someone. She’s going to be playing in the Champions League and having to test herself at a higher level. And she’s gone straight in.

“She showed her quality at the World Cup.

“And Jermaine has gone to a better club, a club that challenges for top honours. And I think those things are really important.”

Banyana and USA will face off in the first match on the 22nd before they play the second game on 24.
