REVEALED: Kaizer Chiefs’ stance on Siyethemba Sithebe

Kaizer Chiefs’ stance on midfielder Siyethemba Sithebe has been revealed.

Sithebe’s future has been the subject of speculation, with the transfer window still open.

The former AmaZulu FC midfielder has made 29 appearances for the Soweto giants in his two seasons with the club.

Sithebe joined Amakhosi at the start of last season from Usuthu.

Under coach Arthur Zwane last season, he was a bit-part player. This season, he started one match, the league game against Mamelodi Sundowns on 9 August 2023.

His agent has spoken out about his future at Kaizer Chiefs.

“He was part of the team going into that Mamelodi Sundowns game, but he picked a knock. He’s getting back to his fitness.

“He’s very much part of the club’s plans, and he’s still eager to fight for his place,” Musa Sithebe told FARPost.

Sithebe must grapple with Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart for a place in the Chiefs engine room.

Amakhosi coach Molefi Ntseki has previously fielded the three in the Sundowns encounter.

However, that approach seemed to fail to work.

Sithebe played 78 minutes in that game and had a 71 per cent pass accuracy. He made 31 touches, completing one dribble.

The former Mbombela United seven passes into the final third, also winning two ground duels and one ariel.

Nonetheless, it suggests he is next in the pecking order should the coach want to tinker with his midfield.

Meanwhile, the one player who looks set to leave the club before the end of the transfer window is Kamohelo Mahlatsi.

Mahlatsi joined the club simultaneously with Sithebe but has struggled for game time.

He looks set to follow Caleb Bimenyimana and Kgaogelo Sekgota, who recently waved goodbye to the Naturena-based side.

He will be hoping for a new lease of life elsewhere. Before joining Chiefs, Mahlatsi was a regular at Swallows FC for two seasons. During the period, he only missed nine games.
