Nkanyiso Zungu leaves Royal AM to train with another DStv Premiership side

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu has left Royal AM to try his luck at another DStv Premiership side.

The left-footer was among the Buccaneers’ departures in June after the club opted against renewing his contract. He spent last season on loan at Richards Bay FC and made 12 appearances, scoring one goal in all competitions.

Zungu, along with the likes of Sibusiso Sibeko and Mxolisi Mkhonto, has been training with Thwihli Thwahla since the pre-season started. He even took part in the KZN Premier’s Cup and Prince Mangosuthu Legacy Cup in the colours of AM.

The Pietermaritzburg-based side had an intention to bring him on board. However, they still can’t sign players due to the FIFA ban.

NKANYISO ZUNGU TRAINING WITH AMAZULU

With the future uncertain at Royal AM, Zungu has now moved on to train with his old club, AmaZulu FC. He joined Pablo Franco Martin’s side in the midweek and is said to have impressed so far, according to FARPost sources.

The 27-year-old participated in a friendly match against Royal AM on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

He’s hoping for a second spell with Usuthu, a club where it all started for him when he was part of their Youth Development. He got a promotion to the first team in 2015 and was loaned to Jomo Cosmos in 2018.

He then secured a permanent move to Stellenbosch FC in the same year and spent just two years with the Winelands side prior to joining Pirates in 2020.

USUTHU TO DECIDE ON OBURU AND NTSHANGASE

Zungu is the third player under assessment, with the club yet to decide on two trialists, Phumlani Ntshangase and Vincent Oburu.

For Ntshangase, things look promising, with Pablo Franco having also expressed a positive impression of him. Meanwhile, Oburu has so much to do to capture the Spanish tactician’s heart, who’s desperate for a striker.
