Kaizer Chiefs’ plan to replace Kamohelo Mahlatsi revealed
Kaizer Chiefs’ plan to replace Kamohelo Mahlatsi, who looks set to leave before deadline day, has been revealed.
Mahlatsi is still at Amakhosi, with exit talks between the club and the player reportedly ongoing.
On Thursday, Mahlatsi was part of the team preparing for the DStv Premiership clash against Royal AM on Saturday.
Of course, Mahlatsi is unlikely to play a part in that game, having struggled to knuckle down a starting place this season.
The 25-year-old is yet to start a match this season and is eager to get a new lease of life elsewhere.
Last season was no different for Mahlatsi, who joined Chiefs from Swallows FC in June 2022, as he only made seven appearances in all competitions.
The former SuperSport and AmaTuks midfielder featured five times in the DStv Premiership, the Nedbank Cup, and MTN8.
With his exit nearing, the club seemingly has a plan to replace him.
WHO WILL REPLACE KAMOHELO MAHLATSI?
Chiefs’ DStv Diski Challenge prodigy Donay Jansen is the player earmarked to step up to the senior team. He will likely replace Mahlatsi.
Jansen is held in high regard at Amakhosi following his exploits in the DDC last season.
The 20-year-old winger earned the spotlight when he notched 12 goals in the reserve league last season.
Jansen, on target in the DDC derby against Orlando Pirates over the weekend, has started training with the senior team. The match against the Buccaneers DDC side ended in a 1-1 draw.
The skilful attacker from Reiger Park often operates on the right wing. Among other qualities he possesses, Jansen is a good crosser of the ball.
His progression last season was impressive as the explosive winger added goals to his game and became a vital cog in the Chiefs reserve side.
Before joining Chiefs, Jansen had a stint with Sun United, the same amateur side Bernard Parker played for as a youngster.
Chiefs look set to offer their academy prodigy a professional contract that will see him deputise the likes of Ashley Du Preez, Pule Mmodi and Tebogo Potsane in the senior team.
He will join the likes of Mduduzi Shabalala, Samkelo Zwane and Wandile Duba, who also came through the club’s structures.
