Morena Ramoreboli: ‘This is the mistake people are making’

Jwaneng Galaxy coach Morena Ramoreboli has warned people to never confuse two things as his side is gearing up for a clash against Orlando Pirates, a club he beat during his tenure at Maluti FET.

Galaxy will welcome the on-form Jose Riveiro’s troops on Sunday in the CAF Champions League Second preliminary round first leg. The match will take place on Sunday, 17 September at 3 pm at the Botswana National Stadium.

This will be the second time that Ramoreboli stands on the touchline in a match against Ezimnyama Ngenkani.

The Rosendal-born coach led the third-tier side, Maluti to a 4-1 victory over the Buccaneers in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 in 2013. He admitted this is an unforgettable memory.

However, he feels people are making a mistake, thinking that Pirates will be playing “Morena of Maluti”.

RAMOREBOLI SAYS PIRATES ARE NOT PLAYING ‘MORENA OF MALUTI’

“What Maluti did to Orlando Pirates, honestly speaking, will be a memory that will remain there forever,” Ramoreboli told FARPost.

“And if Jwaneng Galaxy wins against Orlando Pirates, it will also be another great achievement for Jwaneng Galaxy.

“The mistake that I think people are making is to think that Pirates are playing against Morena, who’s the coach at Jwaneng Galaxy, who was the coach at Maluti FET. But Orlando Pirates are playing Jwaneng Galaxy and if we win against Pirates, it simply means Galaxy won against Pirates, not me.”

Ramoreboli says they’re under pressure to come out as victors at home on Sunday before they travel to South Africa for the return tie.

Pirates will host the second leg against the Botswana Premier League champions on 29 September at Orlando Stadium.

‘WE WANT TO DO WELL’

“We are planning to do well, we know that this is the match that will be played over two legs. So, we will try our level best to make sure that we do what we need to do at home,” he added.

“And when we go away, we don’t go away desperate, we don’t go away worried of how best can we can goals.

“We need to try our level best to make sure that we manage all the phases of the game and get the results. Playing Orlando Pirates, honestly speaking, it shouldn’t be like something that has never happened in life.

“Orlando Pirates has been around and has been beating teams. Even us beating them wouldn’t mean they are the weakest team or they can’t win against us. No!

“It’s a matter of saying we want to do well and they also want to do well. So, we need to try and prepare ourselves better. And obviously, you can’t run away from the fact that being the hosts we’re under pressure because we need to win.”
