AmaZulu FC sign midfielder from Orlando Pirates

AmaZulu FC have confirmed the signing of a midfielder from Orlando Pirates just days before the PSL transfer window closes.

The KZN giants announced the surprise arrival via a statement on Monday with the transfer window set to shut on Friday, 22 September.

The midfielder is AmaZulu’s 10th new signing of the current window as they continue with their re-building mission under the new coach Pablo Franco Martin.

He joins Celimpilo Ngema, Mlondi Mbanjwa, Mfanafuthi Mkhize, Wayde Jooste, and Rowan Human. The club also welcomed Victorien Adebayor, Siyanda Hlangabeza, Victor Letsoalo, and Andile Mbanjwa.

“AmaZulu Football Club have concluded a deal with former Orlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits midfielder, Ben Motshwari (32) for the remainder of the season with an option to renew at the end of the season,” reads the club statement.

In the same breath, Usuthu president Sandile Zungiu said: “We welcome Ben into the team. We trust that he will settle in well and make a good contribution in Pablo Franco’s side.”

Motshwari’s move to AmaZulu comes a few days after Pirates coach Jose Riveiro stated the midfielder was on his plans along with Thembinkosi Lorch and Vincent Pule. Trio has been haunted by injuries for quite some time.

Prior to the start of the season, Motshwari signed a one-year contract extension with the Buccaneers. But now leaves the club having not featured in the new campaign.

Pirates bid farewell to Ben Motshwari

Motshwari joined Pirates from Wits in 2018. He went on to make over 130 appearances at the Buccaneers with five goals and five assists to his name.

Pirates also paid a glowing tribute to Motshwari following confirmation of his move to AmaZulu. The club expressed its gratitude to the midfielder for his unwavering commitment and dedication.

In addition, Bucs likened Motshwari’s approach to the beautiful game to that of Italian legend Gennaro Gattuso.

“In the world of football, where finesse and technique often take centre stage, there emerges an occasional warrior whose grit, determination, and bulldog approach define their legacy more than any flashy skill,” said Pirates.

“Ben Motshwari is one of those players who embodies the spirit of a true football gladiator. Much like the legendary Gennaro Gattuso, Motshwari’s approach to the game was defined by heart and tenacity. Every time he stepped onto the pitch, he gave his all for that Orlando Pirates jersey.

“Motshwari’s journey with us has been marked by highs and lows. But through it all, his commitment to the team has never wavered. Thank You, Ben.”
