BREAKING NEWS: Chiefs, Stellenbosch agree on Sibongiseni Mthethwa deal

Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC have agreed on the transfer of the midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa.

Chiefs submitted a bid for the gritty midfielder last Friday which was initially rejected. However, the DStv Premiership giants came back with an improved offer, which the Winelands club has accepted.

Mthethwa is expected to fly to Johannesburg before Friday to finalise his terms. Amakhosi are set to win the race for the signature of the midfielder, beating their arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

The Buccaneers’ interest in Mthethwa was also widely reported last week with the Sea Robbers still looking to strengthen their midfield.

‘Ox’ will leave Stellies having joined the club in 2022 from Black Leopards. Before his stint with Lidoda Duvha, Mthethwa also turned out for Royal Eagles who got relegated to the ABC Motsepe League in 2020.

Since joining the Western Cape side in the mid-2021/22 campaign, Mthethwa has made over 50 appearances across all competitions. He has never scored a goal in the colours of the Winelands side.

MTHETHWA TO COMPLEMENT CASTILLO AND MAART AT KAIZER CHIEFS

He’s expected to play as number six, complementing Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart who like to play in more advanced roles in the midfield.

Chiefs also signed Mduduzi Mdantsane, Pule Mmodi, Tebogo Potsane, Thatayaone Ditlhokwe, Sphiwe Msimango, Ranga Chivaviro, Edson Castillo and Jasond Gonzalez.

Amakhosi will take on Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN semi-final second leg on Saturday, 23 August at the Lucas Moripe Stadium at 3:00 pm. The first leg ended 1-1 at the FNB Stadium.

Mthethwa could be in line to make his Chiefs debut on the day.
