Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika reflects on his change of position this season
Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has reflected on his change of position since the start of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season.
Last campaign under coach Arthur Zwane, Kwinika played most of the games as a centre-back competing with Edmilson Dove and Siyabonga Ngezana.
This season coach Molefi Ntseki has opted to use the 29-year-old as a fullback ahead of Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons.
So far, the former Stellenbosch FC defender has started and finished four matches in all competitions playing on the side. He has been impressive displaying solid and consistent performances cementing his place in the starting line-up.
ZITHA KWINIKA OPENS UP ON PLAYING AS A RIGHT-BACK
Kwinika said he’s familiar playing in the fullback position. In addition, he stated that he enjoys playing in the position as it boosts his confidence, fitness, and readiness.
“I have actually played the majority of my PSL games at right-back, probably for two seasons, so I am familiar with that position,” said Kwinika.
“I think it’s good to be adaptable and play a few positions, which is an advantage to being able to help the team when required.
“I’m in good shape and happy to be getting minutes, which is boosting me in terms of confidence, fitness, and readiness.”
NEXT STOP, SUPERSPORT UNITED
Kwinika is in line to feature against SuperSport United in Amakhosi’s next league assignment. Kwinika and Co will be aiming to get back to winning ways following a frustrating 0-0 stalemate against Royal AM last time out.
The Soweto giants were not clinical in front of goal as they failed to convert their goalscoring opportunities. The players missed clearcut chances and were denied by the post on two occasions.
Kickoff at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday is at 7:30pm.
