Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport continue dominance over Chiefs
Gavin Hunt’s troops SuperSport United continued their dominance over Kaizer Chiefs in the DStv Premiership following a 1-0 victory on Wednesday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The Tshwane have now won back-to-back league matches against Chiefs. In their last match last season Matsatsantsa beat Amakhosi 1-0.
ITUMELENG KHUNE MAKES FIRST APPEARANCE THIS SEASON
The Soweto giants didn’t make too many changes from a team that was held to a 0-0 draw against Royal AM last time out at FNB Stadium.
Molefi Ntseki only made two changes; Itumeleng Khune and Christian Saile replaced Brandon Petersen and Pule Mmodi.
This was Khune’s first appearance in the 2023/24 season. On the other hand, this was Saile’s second start.
SUPERSPORT UNITED DRASTIC CHANGES
SuperSport made five changes to the team that drew 1-1 against Botswana side Gaborone United in the CAF Confederation Cup.
Washington Arubi, Lyema Dopolo, Onismor Bhasera, Thalente Mbatha and Siphesihle Ndlovu were replaced by Ricardo Goss, Siyanda Xulu, Grant Margeman, Roland Pfumbidzai and Bradley Grobler.
SUPERSPORT UNITED TAKES AN EARLY LEAD
The Tshwane giants took the lead just after kickoff. Terrence Dzvukamanja opened the scoring in just two minutes, thanks to an assist by Bradley Grobler.
After conceding, Amakhosi became a better side trying to find an equaliser. Edson Castillo, Ashley Du Preez, Saile and Sifiso Hlanti’s efforts were off target.
The scoreline remained unchanged for the remainder of the half, however the Soweto giants dominated play with a ball possession of 64 per cent as compared to 36 of SuperSport.
In the second half Chiefs continued from where they left off, dominating play. Castillo’s header went wide in the 73rd minute.
The victory saw SuperSport climb to third on the log with 13 points from six matches, where as Chiefs dropped to eighth with eight points from seven matches.
OTHER DSTV PREMIERSHIP RESULTS
Sekhukhune United returned to winning ways after defeating Royal AM 1-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium. Larry Bwalya scored the only goal of the match in the 18th minute.
TS Galaxy and Cape Town City played out a 0-0 draw at Mbombela Stadium. The Rockets are winless in two matches following defeats. As for the Citizens they are now winless in six matches after five straight defeats and a draw in all competitions.
