AmaZulu FC confirm the signing of Taariq Fielies

AmaZulu FC have confirmed the signing of defender Taariq Fielies from the DStv Premiership rivals Cape Town City FC.

Usuthu keep on rebuilding their squad after they offloaded 15 players at the end of the previous season. Fielies is the 11th signing of the Durban-based outfit.

AmaZulu recently welcomed Ben Motshwari from Orlando Pirates who also signed for the club this week.

Fielies leaves his home province side, the Citizens having spent six seasons with them after joining from Milano United in 2017. AmaZulu announced on him on their social media platforms on Thursday afternoon.

“We are excited to officially announce Taariq Fielies as our new signing. The centre-back joins us on a permanent agreement,” the club confirmed.

The 31-year-old penned a two-year deal and an option to extend for a further year.

Speaking during his unveiling, Fielies promised to put in his maximum effort whenever he dons the shirt of Usuthu.

“I would like to thank the club for bringing me on board and I can guarantee that I will give my all whenever I put on the jersey, I’m looking forward to meeting the fans,” he said.

Fielies made over 190 appearances at Cape Town City, scoring eight goals and providing seven assists in the process. He won MTN8 with City in 2018 during Benni McCarthy’s tenure.

This season, he featured in three matches in all competitions for Eric Tinkler’s side.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu also signed Celimpilo Ngema, Mlondi Mbanjwa, Mfanafuthi Mkhize, Wayde Jooste, and Rowan Human. The club also welcomed Victorien Adebayor, Siyanda Hlangabeza, Victor Letsoalo, and Andile Mbanjwa.

Fielies is expected to compete with the likes of Abbubaker Mobara, Mbongeni Gumede, Veluyeke Zulu and Ramahlwe Mphahlele for the shirt. He is line to make his club debut when AmaZulu take on Polokwane City on Monday, 25 February at the Old Peter Maokaba Stadium at 3:00 pm.
