Pablo Franco’s impression of Taariq Fielies’ AmaZulu FC debut

AmaZulu FC head coach Pablo Franco Martin has shared his thoughts on Taariq Fielies’ debut for his new club Usuthu.

Fielies signed for AmaZulu last week, ending a six-year stay at Cape Town City. He made his debut when the KZN outfit played a 0-0 stalemate with Polokwane City in the DStv Premiership tie at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Monday.

The centre-back produced a stellar performance and walked away with the Man of the Match accolade. Martin was delighted with the 31-year-old’s showing considering that he had only trained twice with the side.

According to the Spanish tactician, Fielies didn’t only help them defensively as he contributed when they were building up.

PABLO FRANCO MARTIN SAYS TAARIQ FIELIES IS ‘IMPORTANT’ FOR THEIR SIDE

“I think he played a very good game, not only in defence,” said Martin after the game.

“I think he helped us build up. He understands the situations very quickly, we knew him as a player. We knew he has an experience in the PSL and was fit when he arrived.

“He has trained twice with us, but we played him because we knew he was going to be an important player for us.”

Martin added he’s happy with what he has at his disposal. However, he mentioned that he was disappointed for having failed to get some players they wanted.

Meanwhile, one of their new signing Victorien Adebayor has yet to join the club due to airspace issues.

MARTIN HAPPY WITH THE SQUAD

“And now I think we are very really happy with the team we have in our feeling regarding the positions,” he added.

“In the opposite feeling, we couldn’t get the players that we wanted, or even the one or two that we signed because of different reasons are not here with the team. And that’s where we are lacking.

“But with the signings of them and the signing of Taariq, I think in those areas we are really, really strong. There’s going to be a good competition in the team.”
