Themba Zwane on facing Stellenbosch without Sibongiseni Mthethwa
Mamelodi Sundowns star Themba Zwane has shared his thoughts on facing Stellenbosch FC without Sibongiseni Mthethwa, who recently joined Kaizer Chiefs.
Bafana Ba Style will welcome Stellies at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday, 27 September 2023. The game will start at 19:30.
Stellenbosch recently defeated Orlando Pirates 1-0 in the second leg of the MTN8 semi-final at Orlando Stadium without Mthethwa.
Unfortunately, the Buccaneers advanced to the final as they had an advantage due to an away goal rule.
THEMBA ZWANE ON SIBONGISENI MTHETHWA DEPARTURE AT STELLENBOSCH FC
When Zwane was asked if he thinks Stellenbosch will be a weaker side following the departure of their former star man Mthethwa to Amakhosi, ‘Mshishi’ said: “I don’t think so. If you check the way coach Steve Barker do things, he always has someone similar to the player that has left.
“I mean, he has got a lot of players that are quick and aggressive on the ball. That’s what makes it difficult to play against Stellenbosch.
“I don’t think there will be that much change.”
Zwane went on to say that it won’t be a walk in the park as Stellenbosch will try to make things difficult for them.
“To be honest, it’s going to be a difficult game. Is that game where Stellenbosch will be looking to use their pace in front,” he added.
“They are going to sit back and try to catch us on a counterattack. Obviously, as a team we know what to do, take care of the ball and try to manage the game very well, and take our chances.
THEMBA ZWANE SINGLE OUT STELLENBOSCH’S DANGER MAN
The Bafana Bafana international also singled out the one player who could cause an upset for Sundowns, and that player is none other than Iqraam Rayners.
“Obviously they have the likes of Rayners up front. That’s the guy they use a lot to give him balls and try to use his pace. He’s got technique and he’s their main player now,” said Zwane.
Sundowns are currently flourishing on the submit of the DStv Premiership log standings with 21 points from seven outings.
Meanwhile, Stellenbosch are placed 13th on the table with seven points after seven games.
