Mammila emulating EPL side to improve Chippa United

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has revealed the English Premier League [EPL] side he’s emulating in a bid to improve the club’s performance.

This comes after Chippa edged 10-man SuperSport United 1-0 in a DStv Premiership game on Tuesday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Chippa started the 2023/24 PSL campaign on a good note and have shown some glimpses that they will be a tough nut to crack.

After eight league outings, the Gqeberha outfit sits fourth on the log table. They have accumulated 12 points after registering three victories, three draws, and two defeats in the process.

MORGAN MAMMILA WANTS TO PLAY LIKE BRIGHTON AND HOVE ALBION

According to Mammila, he wants to copy what the Seagulls have been doing; that’s the playing style and mentality.

The Premier League side have shown in the past few seasons that they can fight pound-for-pound and challenge any team that they come across with. Last campaign they finished sixth to book a spot in the UEFA Europa League for the first time in their history.

“One thing I said to my boys is, ‘If we want to be a ruthless team, let us be Brighton of EPL,'” said Mammila in the post-match with SuperSport TV.

“That team says, ‘If Manchester [United] doesn’t want to chase Manchester City, let’s go behind Manchester City’.

“So we going to give every team a very difficult task when they come here or when we play away. We just want to be a difficult team to play against.”

ONE AREA MORGAN MAMMILA STILL NEEDS TO FIX AT CHIPPA UNITED

The mentor further stated that he wants to improve the team’s finishing in the final third.

The Chilli Boys have been creating more goalscoring opportunities, however, their conversion rate is low. So far this season, they have scored only seven goals.

“This is how we rolling, I just wish we could be clinical in the final third,” he added.
