Why Ben Motshwari came to the point of doubting his abilities at Pirates

AmaZulu FC midfielder Ben Motshwari has singled out people who carried him during a period he says was his lowest point while at Orlando Pirates.

Motshwari recently joined AmaZulu for the remainder of the season “with an option to renew at the end of the campaign” from the PSL giants, Pirates.

This is despite securing a contract extension at Pirates during the off-season. The 32-year-old had not featured for Pirates prior to his move to KZN.

Motshwari has now opened up on the lack of game time, stating that it became frustrating to the point where he started doubting his abilities on the field of play.

“For a player, if you are used to something and it is no longer happening it becomes more of a challenge,” said Motshwari.

“Things start creeping into your mind whether you are good enough. You start doubting yourself and it shouldn’t be like that because looking back to what you achieved as a player and where you see right now, there is a huge difference.

How BEN Motshwari overcame self-doubt

“There is a gap so now you start doubting yourself am I good enough? Do I deserve to be here? You know such questions just pop up in your mind and you wouldn’t want to feel like that. It can mess up your career,” explained the former Bidvest Wits player.

BEN MOTSHWARI GRATEFUL FOR FAMILY SUPPORT

“It was [frustrating] because certain things disturb you. You are no longer the same person, not only at work but even at home. It starts to affect you a little bit. That’s why I was a bit lucky that I had a support system that I had like my mom, my agent, and my family were there for me through these difficult times.

“I am just glad now, I am on a new leaf now playing all over again. Like I said my main focus is regaining my strength and me being fit again and doing what I enjoy most which is playing football,” he said.

Motshwari was an unused substitute during AmaZulu’s 0-0 draw against Polokwane City on Monday in a DStv Premiership game.

He is likely to get a few minutes when Usuthu takes on Moroka Swallow at Dobsonville on Sunday evening.
