Shaun Bartlett takes ‘full responsibility’ for CT Spurs’ poor form

Shaun Bartlett has admitted that he will take “full responsibility” for Cape Town Spurs’ recent poor form after their seventh DStv Premiership successive defeat to arch-rivals Cape Town City

The Urban Warriors succumbed to a 3-1 loss to the Citizens in the Cape Town derby. The showdown took place at DHL Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

CT Spurs are winless in their last seven league games. As a result, the side remain at the basement of the table without a point.

Bartlett has come under pressure in recent weeks as results are not forthcoming.

SHAUN BARTLETT ON CAPE TOWN SPURS’ POOR RESULTS

The 50-year-old mentor took responsibility for Spurs’ poor form, vowing to find a way to turn their fortunes around.

“I’m trying my utmost best with my technical team and other coaches to change the fortunes around,” said Bartlett.

“This is not the position we want to be for five years we have been fighting to be in the DStv Premiership.

“We wanted to make sure that started on better a note and at this moment and time is not.”

The former Golden Arrows coach continued: “So, we as a club we got to look what is the problem at the moment.

“It’s easy to say, I will take the responsibility because it’s not an issue. That’s why I chose the job. Nobody gave the job to me, but I chose it.

“It’s a thankless job because next week when we win the game all the players will get praised and I will be pushed aside. So, I think at the end of the day that’s what I chose to do, being coach of this club.

He further stated that they have to take a collective decision as a club to find a solution to start getting fruitful results.

“When I first came in was to save them from relegation and get promotion and it’s fine. But now it’s not going as we planned,” he added.

“I think collectively, a decision needs to be taken to see how we change things around.”

Meanwhile, a few hours after Spurs suffered a defeat to the Citizens, the side appointed Sean Connor as the club’s technical director.

Connor holds a UEFA pro license coach with extensive experience in various roles within the football fraternity.

He will be tasked with all football operations at Spurs. Connor will also ensure that the club’s football objectives are met, as stated by Ikamva.
