5 talking points as CT City breaks Chiefs’ home unbeaten run

Kaizer Chiefs failed to maintain their unbeaten run at home following their 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City in a DStv Premiership clash Tuesday night.

Below are some of the talking points from the match between both sides at FNB Stadium.

CAPE TOWN CITY BREAK KAIZER CHIEFS’ UNBEATEN RUN AT HOME

Kaizer Chiefs came into this match unbeaten at home this season. Amakhosi had played four games on their own turf without a defeat, having won two and drew two in the process. This was their fifth league game at home.

The last time Chiefs went unbeaten in their first four home league matches was in 2016.

Amakhosi looked determined not to suffer a defeat at home against Eric Tinkler’s side, as remained disciplined at the back until Khanyisa Mayo’s goal changed everything.

KHANYISA MAYO SCORES FOURTH GOAL OF THE SEASON

The in-form Cape Town City striker Khanyisa Mayo scored his fourth goal of the campaign in the 58th minute of the match. Over the weekend, Mayo scored a brace against arch-rivals Cape Town Spurs at DHL Stadium.

SIBONGISENI MTHETHWA’S FIRST START FOR KAIZER CHIEFS

The Glamour Boys’ latest addition in the just-ended September transfer window period Sibongiseni Mthethwa got his first start since his arrival at Naturena.

Mthethwa made his debut for Amakhosi last week when they defeated Sekhukhune United 2-1. The talented midfielder showed a glimpse of why he registered as a huge statement signing for Molefi Ntseki-coached side.

MTHETHWA, CASTILLO AND MAART STARTING TOGETHER

As coach Ntseki hinted that the trio might start with the game today during the club’s media open day on Monday, the three players started together against the Citizens.

The trio’s combination was satisfying to watch, with Maart playing as a number six with the help of Mthethwa in the middle of the park, whereas Castillo played in an advanced role [number eight].

EXCELLENT RUNS

Despite Chiefs failing to find the back of the net, the side made some good runs to up the tempo, forcing the visitors’ backline into errors with the aim of an equaliser.
