No bad blood between Erasmus and Sundowns ahead of MTN8 final

Orlando Pirates striker Kermit Erasmus insists there is no bad blood between him and his former club Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Buccaneers will take on Bafana Ba Style in the MTN8 final clash on Saturday, 7 October at Moses Mabhida Stadium. The game will start at 18:00.

Erasmus parted ways with Sundowns in 2022 not on good terms as he had to force his way out of the club due to lack of game time.

The 33-year-old footballer had joined Masandawana back in October 2020.

In the two seasons that he spent with the Brazilians, Erasmus managed to score 10 goals and weighed in with seven assists from 43 appearances.

Interestingly, Erasmus played a huge role when the Sea Robbers knocked out Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-finals last. Erasmus scored one of the goals at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Erasmus says there are no hard feelings [emotions] ahead of Saturday’s MTN8 final clash in Durban. “There’s no emotions playing against my former team. I mean, I have been there for only two seasons,” he said.

“So, I’m good with all the players there and still friends with them. This is a game both teams want to win.

“There are no friends on the night during the 90 minutes because we are there to work and grind the results and be victorious.”

KERMIT ERASMUS HAPPY TO PLAY IN ANOTHER FINAL

The talented goalscorer is excited to feature in his third successive domestic cup final and vows to leave everything in the field of play.

“I’m blessed and fortunate to be in another final in my career,” added Erasmus. “Not many players get the opportunity to be part of finals. I’m willing to give my everything that I can on the day.”

The former Bafana Bafana international also expressed his delight in having a full squad ahead of the much-awaited final showdown.

“It’s always good to have a selection full squad with players that can give you a whole lot of different things that can complete some parts of the puzzle,” he explained.

“So, it’s a good thing and I hope the coach is excited about that. Like I said, it’s about a good performance on the day and execution of the plan.”
