Will Castillo, Maart and Mthethwa play together? Ntseki responds

Kaizer Chiefs coach Molefi Ntseki has responded to questions about the possibility of seeing the club’s midfielders Edson Castillo, Yusuf Maart, and Sibongiseni Mthethwa playing together.

Mthethwa signed for Amakhosi one week ago. His arrival prompted questions on how Ntseki would set up his midfield from there on with Castillo and Maart having seemingly cemented their spots.

‘Ox’ has only played one game thus far. He came on from the bench last week when Chiefs defeated Sekhukhune United 2-1 in the DStv Premiership. He replaced Castillo, who had started along with Maart and George Matlou.

Maart was playing as number six while Castillo played in a more advanced role. And according to the former Bafana Bafana coach, the Venezuelan will be utilised more as an eight going forward.

Ntseki says it will be possible to see the trio playing together depending on what they want to achieve from that particular game. And he explained how they would be arranged when they’re fielded together.

MOLEFI NTSEKI ON POSSIBILITY OF SEEING CASTILLO, MAART AND MTHETHWA PLAYING TOGETHER

“Yeah it will be possible depending on the game plan, depending on the moment, the face of the game and what do we want to achieve in that moment,” Ntseki told the media.

“If ever we want to see both of them [Castillo and Maart] helping the team offensively, yes we’ll see the three of them. If we want to see both of them [Maart and Mthethwa] helping the team defensively, it will happen [they will all play].

“Because these are good quality players and I think when you profile our midfielders now, there’s a very good balance.

“The unfortunate part is that when you have the three of them on the pitch, you’re likely to have two of them off the pitch. When you have four of them in the team, you might have three of them not in the team.

“But I think the most important is the understanding that we are developing within each one of them to say the squad has got this number of players and each one of them will get a chance to play and hopefully do well.

“And whenever you do well, there’s no reason for any coach to take you out.”
