Kompany gives verdict on Lyle Foster’s impact at Burnley FC
Burnley FC coach Vincent Kompany has given his verdict on how Lyle Foster’s impact has been felt at the club in his maiden Premier League season.
The Bafana Bafana attacker continues to prove his mettle in his maiden English Premier League season where he has now scored three times in five matches.
Foster opened the scoresheet for the Clarets on the stroke of half-time as they surged ahead of Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night.
Elijah Adebayo equalised for the hosts, Luton Town, after 84 minutes. But Jacob Bruun Larsen silenced the home crowd with a stunning strike a minute later.
That was all Burnley needed to beat fellow strugglers Luton Town 2-1 to celebrate their first Premier League victory of the 2023/24 season.
WHAT VINCENT KOMPANY SAID ABOUT LYLE FOSTER’S IMPACT
And the Burnley coach, Vincent Kompany, felt they missed a lot of chances when Foster was on suspension.
He was left waxing lyrical after Foster marked his return from a three-match suspension with a goal for the team. “It was a shame for him to be ruled out the last three games after starting strong. But he showed signs of being in a place where he belongs,” said Kompany.
“Lyle has had a massive impact on the team this season. Anytime he plays, he looks a threat. And I’m sure he will look back at this game and think he is on the way to hopefully being a good striker in this league.
“As a manager, you give credit to the players when they do well. And you take responsibility when they don’t, and that’s the nature of the job.”
Meanwhile, Foster was on cloud nine after putting up a Man-of-the-Match performance for the Clarets.
“It was a very tough game. A good first half from us, and then Luton came out and put us under pressure,” said the 23-year-old.
“They got the goal that they wanted, but I am just happy we got the win in the end.”
The victory lifted Burnley to 18th position with four points as they prepare to host Chelsea on Saturday.
The Clarets, who won the promotion ticket as Championship winners last season, had taken only one point from their first six matches. They however remain behind Luton Town FC and Everton on goal difference.
Meanwhile Bournemouth and Sheffield United are now the only teams yet to taste victory in the Premier League this season.
