‘The guy doesn’t want to play soccer’: Zungu on AmaZulu midfielder

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has spoken his mind about one of the players who was signed by the club last season.

Usuthu recently had a massive squad revamp this past PSL transfer window as the club released 15 players and welcomed 11 new signings. Among the changes that were made, the club also appointed a new coach Pablo Franco Martin.

Meanwhile, there are players like Siphesihle Maduna, Mxolisi Kunene, Lindani Shange and Mswati Mavuso who are still with AmaZulu but not training with the first team. It is understood they are not in the plans of Martin.

According to Zungu, Usuthu tried to get loan deals for Mavuso, however, the player wasn’t interested in leaving the club.

FARPost understands AmaZulu triggered a two-year option on the contract of Mavuso who had signed a five-month deal initially. Thus, he has this season and the upcoming one as an AmaZulu player

And as per KickOff, the club was hoping the player would accept a “six-month pay-off”.

SANDILE ZUNGU OPENS UP ON MSWATI MAVUSO

“I think the guy just doesn’t want to play soccer, that’s the impression I got,” Zungu told FARPost.

“He doesn’t want to play soccer. We have tried to find him teams that he can be loaned to. But I think he’s not interested in playing soccer.

“I think he just wants to hang around and have the package that he has with AmaZulu which is a reality. So, there’s nothing we can do much if someone doesn’t want to play soccer.”

The 22-year-old hasn’t made a single appearance since penning a deal with Usuthu in February this year.

“He’s definitely not in the plans of the coach,” Zungu added.

“He has been exposed to the three coaches [Romain Folz, Ayanda Dlamini and Pablo Franco Martin].

“Romain Folz who signed him, he was not in his plans and we asked ‘Why do you sign a player who’s not in your plans?’. He said he’s not ready but he will get ready sometime.”
