Chaine reflects on his penalty heroics against Sundowns in the MTN8 final
Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Sipho Chaine has reflected on his penalty heroics against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 final on Saturday at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Chaine showcased a brilliant performance on penalties. He ensured that the Sea Robbers retained the title they won last season. All-in-all, he saved three penalties as the Bucs won 3-1 as the match had ended 0-0 after extra time.
For his superb performance in between the sticks, the former Chippa United goalkeeper walked away with the Man of the Match award.
The 26-year-old proved his doubters wrong, last time out against Jwaneng Galaxy in the CAF Champions League, Chaine was subbed off when the match was heading to penalties and was replaced by Richard Ofori.

According to the shot-stopper, he didn’t have a plan for the penalties as he did what he had to do. “I think I went blank for all those penalties, I didn’t know what was happening,” Chaine told Orlando Pirates TV.
“I don’t know what to say but really it went well for me, I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity.
“These penalties they’re not easy. They might say it’s 50/50 but today it went that way and I really thank God for this win.”

Chaine further reflected on the difficulties they faced during the final as a team.
“The first half wasn’t that easy, I think we created more half chances. We didn’t create many clear chances that were convincing.
“The second half was very difficult for us we needed to manage very well, the winds were a really big factor in this game,” Chaine added.
