Kermit Erasmus reveals what makes Riveiro the best coach

Orlando Pirates forward Kermit Erasmus has revealed what makes his coach Jose Riveiro the best coach.

Riveiro guided Pirates to their third domestic trophy since taking over the hot seat at the start of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season.

Pirates beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 on penalties at Moses Mabhida on Saturday to defend the MTN8 title.

The Buccaneers won the top competition at the same venue last season after defeating AmaZulu FC 1-0.

Pirates added the Nedbank Cup trophy to their cabinet at the end of the 2022/23 campaign after beating Sekhukhune United 2-1 at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

Meanwhile, the Soweto giants hierarchy backed the Spaniard with high-profile signings during the off-season to build a competitive team.

Pirates signed Lesedi Kapinga, Karim Kimvuidi, Siphelo Baloni, Katlego Otladisa, Melusi Buthelezi, Patrick Maswanganyi, and Siphamandla Gumede.

Riveiro has seemingly mastered the art of winning trophies, and Erasmus has revealed what makes him the best coach.

“What I can say about the coach is that he’s got a lot of patience, he’s very motivated and passionate about this club,” said Erasmus.

“And I think in the ways that he’s trying to coach us, suits us as South African players. He’s always open to opinions of what we think as players.

“He also tries to understand different players and how they behave in certain situations, what drives them or what lets their head down if he’s shouting too much.

“So he’s trying to figure out how to treat every player in a way that is comfortable for them as individuals.

“I think because of that, the unity of the team has been really good and I think he’s been great for us as a coach.”
