Casric Stars announce appointment of new coach
The Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars have announced the appointment of a new coach following the sacking of Ashwin Sutton on Tuesday.
Casric Stars relieved Sutton of his duties with immediate effect after a poor start to the 2023/24 Motsepe Foundation Championship season.
The Mpumalanga-based outfit managed to register only two wins in the league, drawing two and losing three times in the seven matches they have played. They are currently sitting eighth on the log with eight points.
Stars came close to gaining promotion to the DStv Premiership last season but they lost out in the promotion/relegation playoffs. Cape Town Spurs brushed aside Casric Stars and Maritzburg United in the playoffs to gain promotion to SA’s top flight.
Sutton became the fifth coach to bite the dust since the start of the 2023/24 Championship campaign.
Other coaches who have lost their jobs are Asanda Mvalo [Milford FC], Stanford Nkoane[Baroka FC], Joel Masutha [Venda Football Academy] and Alejandro Dorado [Black Leopards].
CASRIC STARS NAME SUNDRA GOVENDER AS THEIR HEAD COACH
Stars have moved swiftly to appoint a new coach as they look to bring their season back on track and fight for promotion. Meanwhile, the former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Thabo Nthethe will serve as an assistant coach.
“In light of Mr Sutton’s departure, we are delighted to announce that Mr Sundra Govender who previously served as the performance coach for Casric Stars FC will be taking the role of head coach,” the club announced.
“Coach Govender along with coach Thabo Nthethe as his assistant will work tirelessly to ensure the continued success and growth of Casric Stars, collaborating with our existing experienced and dedicated technical team that has consistently proven their dedication.”
Govender and Nthethe will be looking to hit the ground running when Casric face Baroka FC at the Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Friday, 29th of October.
Bakgakga also aim to turn their fortunes after appointing Dan Malesela as their head coach a few weeks ago.
