Wolves trial for Orlando Pirates starlet confirmed
Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has confirmed that the club’s starlet Relebohile Mofokeng is currently on trial at English Premiership side Wolves.
Mofokeng, according to Riveiro, will not be part of Friday’s Carling Knockout Cup tie against Cape Town Spurs.
The Buccaneers, recently crowned MTN8 Champions, start their Carling Knockout campaign with a clash against Spurs in the Round of 16.
But Riveiro will be without the services of Mofokeng, who is away on trial in the United Kingdom. “He’s in the UK, he’s having a trial period with Wolves,” confirmed Riveiro during the Carling Knockout Cup press conference.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene last season, making his debut on 1 April 2023 against Richards Bay in a 2-0 win. Six months later, the youngster stands on the brink of making a dream overseas move.
During the 2022/23 season, he made two appearances for the club. However, Riveiro has given the teenager more game time this season, making 11 appearances so far.
The Spaniard believes Mofokeng, despite his age, is ready for the big stage and predicts he will make it overseas.
WHAT JOSE RIVEIRO SAID ABOUT RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG TRIAL
“About Rele, I believe he’s ready for whatever is coming,” said Riveiro when asked about Mofokeng’s trial.
“He’s in a proper age. Maybe it looks like early – 18 – but not for me. “If you follow the current situation in Europe, 18, 17, 19, it’s really frequent to get your first minutes in the top teams.
“You have to little by little change our vision of the youngsters. When you’re ready, you’re ready.
Even if you’re 18 or 28, you’re ready you’re ready.“We know the type of talent Rele is, and everything is in his hands to use this opportunity.”
