Carling Knockout Quarter-final Draw: How it works

The PSL have confirmed the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup quarter-final draw procedure on Friday, 20 October 2023.

The Carling Knockout quarter-final draw will be conducted live on Sunday night from the TUT Stadium after the SuperSport United and Polokwane City last 16 tie.

So far, TS Galaxy are the only side that have booked their place in the tournament’s quarter-finals following their 5-4 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties this past Wednesday.

As per the competition rules and regulations, the quarter-final draw will be seeded.

The clubs that achieved the highest four positions in the DStv Premiership last campaign will be seeded. And the rest of the teams will be unseeded.

PSL CONFIRMS DRAW PROCEDURE

a) Three bowls will be used for the draw [labelled: Pot A, B, C]

b) The first bowl [Pot A] will contain the seeded four clubs.

c) The second bowl [Pot C] will contain the names of the other four clubs.

d) The third bowl [Pot B] will be empty – to be used to determine home and away.

HOW IT WORKS

1. We draw a ball from the seeded bowl [Pot A] and place it in the empty bowl [Pot B] without opening it.

2. We draw a ball from the unseeded bowl [Pot C] and place it in the empty bowl [Pot B] without opening it.

3. We then go to Pot B and draw the first ball for home, and then the second ball for away.

4. We repeat the same sequence until all four quarter-final fixtures are confirmed.

The winner of the Carling Knockout will walk away with R6.85m, whereas the runner-up will pocket R2.85m.

Meanwhile, the semi-finalist will gain R1.35m, with quarter-finalists earning themselves R850 000, and the teams getting knocked out in the last 16 will only get R550 000.
