Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final draw confirmed

The draw for the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-final was conducted on Sunday evening at the TUT Stadium following the completion of the Last 16 round matches.

Orlando Pirates, Sekhukhune United, TS Galaxy, AmaZulu FC, Richards Bay, Golden Arrows, Stellenbosch, and Polokwane City are the eight teams that advanced to the last eight.

LAST 16 RESULTS   

Galaxy were the first club to go through following a 5-4 penalty shootout win against Mamelodi Sundowns in Mbombela on Wednesday. The game had ended 2-2 after extra-time. Two days later, Pirates advanced after a 2-0 win against struggling Cape Town Spurs at Orlando Stadium on Friday.

At the weekend, Stellies beat Chippa United 2-1 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday, while Golden Arrows beat Cape Town City 3-1 at Mpumalanga Stadium also on Saturday.

AmaZulu FC on the other hand stunned Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 with a late goal at FNB Stadium on Saturday. Sekhukhune United eliminated Royal AM with a 1-0 win at home in Peter Mokaba. Richards Bay stunned Moroka Swallows 2-1 at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Polokwane City were the final team to go through after trumping SuperSport United 4-1 at TUT Stadium on Sunday evening. It was Rise and Shine’s first away win against SuperSport United and a first cup win against the Tshwane side.

The quarter-final matches will take place on the weekend of 4/5 November with the PSL set to announce the venue details in due course.

HOW THE DRAW WORKED

Three bowls were used for the draw (labelled: Pot A, B, C). The first bowl [Pot A] contained the seeded four clubs. Second bowl [Pot C] contained the names of the other four clubs. The third bowl [Pot B] was empty and used to determine home and away.
