‘I have seen worse’: Gavin Hunt
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt says that his side’s embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Polokwane City in the Carling Black Label Knockout Cup round of 16 was nothing short of a shock as he has seen the worst.
The game between Matsatsantsa and Rise and Shine took place at TUT Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Goals from Oswim Appolis, Ndamulelo Maphangule and a brace from Hlayisi Chauke was enough to earn PLK City in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the consolation goal for Support in the dying minutes of the showdown.
As a result, Lehlohonolo Seema’s boys will face Stellenbosch FC in the quarter-finals in Polokwane.
GAVIN HUNT ON POLOKWANE CITY DEFEAT
Despite the concerns over the Tshwane giants’ inability to deal PLK City attackers and falling to convert their chances, Hunt insists that he has seen the “worse”.
“Yeah, I have seen worse. But we had a lot of chances and every time they broke out they scored. We didn’t defend well enough that’s for sure,” said Hunt.
“You know, we are not blessed enough with a lot of players, especially when you lose one and two but you can’t make excuses like that.
“If they are under contact they should do better and I think we were out muscled a little bit, and that’s not good enough for me.”
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor went on to say that they were not good collectively on the day. “Collectively we were not good enough. We have to be better. There’s a lot of things we need to get right. But it could have been 3-0 up ourselves before they even scored and that’s football,” he added.
“You know, it was very bumpy [pitch] but they did better than we did. If you look at scoreline, the pitch suited them better.
“But we can’t look like that. Whenever you lose a game especially a knockout game with a lot of missed opportunities, obviously we are dissapointed. I’m very disappointed but it is what is it.”
