Maritzburg United complete two new signings

Maritzburg United have wrapped up two new signings as they continue to strengthen their team with the aim of returning to the top-flight.

The Team of Choice suffered relegation from the DStv Premiership via the PSL Promotional Playoffs in the previous season.

Cape Town Spurs, who’re enduring a nightmarish start to life in the top-flight, seized Maritzburg’s spot after finishing on top of the three-team mini-league table.

Subsequently, Maritzburg lost several veteran players prior to the start of the season.

Karim Kimvuidi, Ali Meza, Wayde Jooste, Rowan Human, Genino Palace, Travis Graham, Tebogo Tlolane and Keagan Ritchie are some of the notable names who departed.

MARITZBURG UNITED SIGN KHUMALO AND GOLDSTONE

United have captured the signings of the former Golden Arrows midfielder Siyabonga Khumalo and former Baroka FC winger Bayzel Goldstone.

Khumalo parted ways with Abafana Bes’thende in the previous season. He went on to train with Polokwane City as he was hoping for a contract. However, it is understood they couldn’t find each other in negotiations.

He was also rumoured to be heading to Richards Bay FC but it is uncertain whether the two parties engaged.

Meanwhile, Goldstone was in the books of Uthongathi FC last season and like Khumalo, he joins on a free transfer. He has also turned out for the now-defunct Royal Eagles and Golden Arrows reserve team.

Maritzburg have almost an all-new team and made some crucial signings before in the previous transfer window. They brought in experienced players in Tshepo Gumede and Zukile Kewuti.

They had also signed Leletu Skelem and Athenkosi Dlala who have since left the club before the end of their contracts.

GOOD START IN THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP

The Midlands side has had a good start to the new season in the second-tier. In eight games they have played so far, they have collected four wins, three draws and suffered one defeat.

They are second on the log standings with 15 points and four behind the log leaders Orbit College.
